Movie Review

The Devil Wears Prada begins by giving a glimpse into the fast paced stylish world of NewYork City models. It shows the contrast between models and an every day person and what it takes to be 'Model hot'. Right off bat we see beautiful people in beautiful clothes foreshadowing what is to come. Looking at this lifestyle from an outside perspective it reminds me of a mannequin in a store window, perfect and seemingly a little sad. As the title character emerges into the fashion headquarters of 'the Devil' the competitiveness between everyone is so cut throat its scary. It shows that to make it in the world of NYC Fashion one must give up all you stand for in the name of Fashion.

Rhetorical Analysis

Our next project includes studying, analyzing, and describing a certain Commercial Advertisement or series of Ads. To rhetorically analyze something one must pick a particular Advertisement and then work to discover everything there is to know about this particular Ad. Not only do you have to understand what the Ad is saying but you also must be able to describe it to someone else in detail and be able to back up your theory. This skill is a necessity for projects like our next one and being aware of what is required puts you on track for a well thought out final project.

Presentations

The class Powerpoint presentations were all very well done. Each group had a different topic to present about. Every group had to designate certain parts of their project to each member of the group and they had to present about their topic. Watching each group present i feel like I gained knowledge that i would have gone without otherwise. We had to personally grade each groups project and I didn't give a single group less than a B.

Arguments

I feel that arguments are one of the most exciting part of the human language. It gives someone the ability to fight for what they believe is true. It takes two different sides to start an argument and both of them should be legitimate. The two different sides then start a battle of wit and grit, back and forth until one of them either concedes to the others point of view or they both continue to think they are correct and then no one wins and everybody stays mad. I love arguing because it gives me a platform to show my natural talent for, well, arguing. Its really fun for me and good debates are never the same because they rely  completely on each individuals' own strengths and weaknesses.

Old Projects

The projects from former students that were posted on Blackboard gave me a goal to work towards. I realized what was expected of us and after viewing them all came up with a few ideas of my own. At first I had planned on doing a scrap book. After watching the movies, however, I was moved towards making a short film myself. I was also intrigued by the collage idea and will keep working on my choice, definitely deciding on one soon. Whichever I decide to do I am looking forward to leaning a little more on my creative side for a change, I think it will be fun and a good learning experience.

Project 1 Topic

I   was thinking about possible topics for my project and I came up with one in particular.  Up until 8th grade I had attended a Steiner school, which didn’t cater much to academics. After graduation I followed my older brother to Berkshire Country Day, a private school that I was not prepared for.  At first I was completely overwhelmed but with the one on one time with the teachers I slowly caught up to the rest of my classmates. I progressed in all my studies especially writing and literature . I think this was the one experience in my life that affected me most academically. At the top of my list for the actual projects is a scrap book but I haven’t completely settled on that yet.
